National Ski Areas Association

The National Ski Areas Association has an interesting presentation on building sustainable slopes.

In my opinion, part of the lure of skiing is being out in the hills among nature. Downhill skiing itself, however, has turned into a very resource intensive packaging of nature. Ski lifts consume a great deal of energy. Ski areas also consume a great deal of energy and water with snow making equipment to prolong the ski season.

We've built ski areas near many of the most beautiful and pristine areas in Colorado. As such, ski areas have a profound obligation to study and minimize their impact on the environment.
