AAACEUs.com provides career resources and continuing education for case managers.

The site is designed for case managers. It does not include any resources for people like me who have no clue what a case manager is. Wikipedia repeats a six dollar definition of Case Management:

"a collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation and advocacy for options and services to meet an individual's health needs through communication and available resources to promote quality cost-effective outcomes."

It appears that a Case Manager is a clerical position. The Case Manager works on a patient's case to make sure all of the pieces of the case are aligned. Wikipedia notes that case managers tend to come from the nursing or social work profession.

The articles I am reading aren't clear about the extent to which a case works directly with patients.

Apparently the majority of case managers work for organizations such as hospitals, HMOs or the employer. There are a few that consult on an independent basis. It appears that Case Management is a nonmedical position that overseas individual cases to help direct people to the right medical resources.
