Site of the Week

November 20, 2008: Community Color is happy to launch the Denver site of the week program. As with the directory, the goal of this program is simply to encourage local web development.

The primary purpose of the Site of the Week program is to have regularly changing content for an RSS Feed Subscribe feed on this web site.

This program was originally designed as a Site of the Day program. That was way too much work. As the goal is to have regularly changing content, I reduced the program to an official site of the week which appears every Thursday.

I will often include additional information or resources about a site on other days of the week. For example, if a band has a youtube video, I might give them a random day in the week to display the video.

Advertisers often have widgets, coupons, or flyers for display on web sites. I will often include those items on random days during the week.

Choosing the Site of the Week is rather random. For the most part, I do it when I add sites to the directory. If the site I am adding to the directory is intriguing, I declare it site of the week.

The goal of this program is to produce an interesting cross section of sites. I try to pull links from all categories of the directory, but there is a bias toward art sites and charitable organizations. There is a notable bias toward organizations that host community events. If a group is hosting an event, I will try to put the review near the event.
