Sloan's Lake

Sloan's Lake is a neighborhood between Colfax and Seventeenth in Denver.

The lake is named after Thomas M. Sloan who was a farmer. In 1861 he dug a well that cut into the aquifer and flooded his fields.

Sloan gave up in the land in 1874. The site became the home of the "Steam Navigation Company" which constructed an old time Steam Ship. This was followed by the "Manhattan Beach" amusement park.

In 1892, the Poor Sisters of St. Francis opened St. Anthony's Hospital at the lake. As the city grew around the lake, it was home to a regatta and other amusements.
